To Sam's question about Wikipedia and Reddit -- yes, both are heavily cited by LLMs, but for different reasons.
Wikipedia matters because LLMs treat it as a ground truth anchor. If your brand has a Wikipedia page with accurate, well-sourced information, that becomes the baseline for how every model describes you. Without it, the AI fills in the blanks -- and it often gets things wrong.
Reddit is different. It's where LLMs pick up sentiment and real-world context. A brand that gets mentioned positively in r/SaaS or r/marketing threads will surface differently than one that only has corporate content. The informal, human-generated endorsements carry weight.
But here's the catch: you can't game either. Wikipedia editors will revert promotional content. Reddit users will call out astroturfing. The play is to be genuinely worth talking about, then make sure the conversation is findable.
I can relate to Reddit in that aspect, even I was looking for beta testers for a community tool and oh my gosh they treated me like trash 🤭 the community is so intense there. I’ll try good luck this week again!
This is brilliant advice, Sharyph. Thank you. I've also read that one of the keys to GEO is getting citations on Wikipedia and Reddit. Is that something that works from your experience as well?
Thanks for sharing this list of tactical steps, Sharyph. Appearing in AI answers is already really important for brands, and you're right now is the time to take the lead!
Great article Sharyph. This is definitely a game changer for Google, Amazon and others, as it lowers their barriers to entry and bring about new competition. This is definitely a reference article.
One thing I noticed on a lot of websites lately is that they have a specific Markdown version of the content on that page. It's more on the technical side but it cand definitely help AI crawlers understand the content better.
If AI can’t find the right answer about you, your deal might already be lost.
The post I was hoping for! Thanks you, Sharyph!
This is very helpful. Thanks for putting this together! 🙋🏻♀️ Time to level up the game.
Glad you find it helpful.
