Everyone wants 100K followers.
But no one talks about Day 1.
The day you publish your first post into the void.
The day you refresh for likes… and get none.
The day you question if this whole “audience building” thing is worth it.
Here’s the truth most people won’t tell you:
The first 30 days of building an audience are less about algorithms and more about identity.
You’re not just showing up online.
You’re rewriting how you see yourself.
That shift? It’s hard.
It’s also the beginning of something powerful.
In this issue, I’m going to walk you through:
The mindset shifts every beginner needs
The quiet challenges no one warns you about
What to actually do in your first month
How AI can help you stay consistent and show up with confidence
This isn’t about hacks or high-performer rituals.
It’s a roadmap for creators who want to grow an audience with intention, one that leads to income, not just internet clout.
Let’s begin.
Before that, I want to share this.
My friend Sinem is hosting a free Masterclass on Thursday titled “How to Grow Your Audience And Income on Substack.”
It’s happening at 7pm CET (Central European Time)
During the Masterclass, she’ll share:
The top rules that helped her build an large audience
Simple strategies to help you stand out from thousands of other writers
How to best leverage Substack in 2025.
If you can’t make it to the Masterclass live, you’ll receive a replay. But you have to be registered in order to get it, so make sure to sign up.
The Mindset Foundation
Think like a creator, not a consumer.
If you’re starting from zero, the biggest challenge won’t be writing or posting.
It’ll be thinking differently.
The mindset that got you here…scrolling, consuming, overthinking…won’t help you build an audience.
You need a new frame.
Here are 3 powerful mindset shifts to adopt in your first week:
1. From perfection → iteration
Perfection kills momentum.
You don’t need to be impressive. You need to be in motion.
Done is better than perfect, especially online.
If you’re not a little embarrassed by your first few posts, you waited too long to publish them.
2. From “How do I grow fast?” → “How do I become worth discovering?”
Audience building isn’t about chasing attention.
It’s about earning trust from people who resonate with your ideas.
Start by answering this:
“What would I want to be known for 6 months from now?”
Then build your content around that.
3. From fear of judgment → service through clarity
Most beginners don’t post because they’re afraid of being judged.
Flip the script:
Your content isn’t about you. It’s about the people you want to help.
When you write to serve, fear fades.
✅ ACTIONS
Choose your home platform.
Pick one channel (Substack, X, or LinkedIn) and commit to showing up 3–5x/week. Don’t try to be everywhere. I started my journey on X.Write your “why.”
Define the purpose behind building an audience.
(Ex: “To attract clients for my service” or “To sell a course on design.”)Define 3 content pillars.
Choose 3 topics you can speak on consistently. These should align withYour skills
Your experience
Your target audience’s pain points
For example, for me it is…
“I’ll focus on productivity, content marketing, and building digital products as a solopreneur.”
Define Your Direction
Clarity before content.
The biggest mistake beginners make?
They start posting before they define who they’re talking to and why it matters.
Without clarity, your content will feel like noise.
With it, you become magnetic.
Let’s get you clear on the fundamentals before you chase engagement.
Step 1: Define your target audience
Ask yourself:
Who do I want to help?
What problem are they aware of?
What kind of content are they already consuming?
Example, for me it is:
I help creators turn their skills into income through simple systems and content.
I wrote a detailed guide about this:
Step 2: Clarify your Point of View (POV)
This is your edge. Your voice in the market.
To uncover your POV, try filling in the blanks:
“Most people think ___, but I believe ___.”
“I’m tired of seeing ___, so I teach ___ instead.”
“If my content had one goal, it would be to help people ___.”
Example:
“Most creators think they need to post daily to grow. I believe a clear system beats hustle.”
“I’m not here to chase virality. I help people grow without burnout.”
Step 3: Create your bio + pinned post
This is your mini billboard. It tells new visitors:
What you do
Who you help
Why they should follow
Formula for your bio: (your skill statement)
I help [who] [do what] using [how].
In here, I share how I use AI to come up with a skill statement and much more. 👇
✅ ACTIONS
Fill out your audience profile and POV (use Notion or pen + paper).
Rewrite your bio to reflect who you serve and how.
Draft and pin a post that introduces your content and journey.
Clarity isn’t just a brand strategy.
It’s a growth accelerator.
You’ll write faster. Connect deeper. Convert better.
Start Showing Up
Publish before you’re ready.
This is where most people stall.
They have their niche. They’ve thought about their content pillars.
But when it’s time to post?
They say, “I don’t think this is up to the standard…”
Not because they don’t know what to say…but because they think it needs to be perfect.
Let me say this clearly:
You don’t become a content creator before you post.
You become a creator by posting.
You’re not building a personal brand.
You’re building trust….one small insight at a time.
Step 1: Start small (but consistent)
You don’t need to post 5x/day.
You need to create a rhythm you can sustain.
Start with:
3 short-form posts per week
Optional: 1 longer post (thread, carousel, or newsletter)
Creating a schedule will help you a lot.
I call this “Content Distribution System,” where I capture my ideas to publish posts and social media content.
Step 2: Focus on insight, not opinion
Opinion says: “Consistency is the key to growth.”
Insight says: “I gained 2,000 followers by showing up 3x/week with this format.”
People follow insight. They share clarity.
Use this simple formula to craft better posts:
What happened → What you learned → What they can do
Example:
“I posted every day for 30 days.
What worked: clear CTAs, writing in a series, and curiosity-based hooks.
What flopped: late-night posts, reposting viral formats, and overthinking.
My advice: Pick one post style and master it.”
Step 3: Don’t just post…engage too
Growth doesn’t come from shouting into the void.
It comes from contributing to conversations that are already happening.
Daily habit:
Leave 5 thoughtful comments under creators you admire.
Quote-tweet or share something with your own spin.
DM someone you respect with no agenda.
✅ ACTIONS
Publish 3 posts this week based on your pillars.
Write at least 1 “insight post” using the What → Learned → Advice structure.
Comment meaningfully on 5 posts per day for 5 days straight. Track results.
Reminder:
Visibility is a skill. The more you show up, the more people show up for you.
You’re not “too early.”
You’re right on time…because you started.
Build Your First System
You don’t need to post more…you need a rhythm.
You’ve done the hard part:
→ Defined your direction
→ Started showing up
→ Published your first posts
Now it’s time to build a system that helps you stay consistent without burning out.
This is where many beginners fall off.
They either get overwhelmed by complexity or bored by the process.
But here’s the truth:
A simple system you can stick to beats a fancy one you’ll abandon.
Let’s set up a basic content loop that works with your life, not against it.
Step 1: Create a repeatable weekly workflow.
Start with a basic rhythm:
1. Capture: Write down raw ideas (from notes, life, replies).
2. Create: Turn 1–2 ideas into short-form posts.
3. Distribute: Schedule posts + engage
4. Repurpose: For other platforms (newsletter, LinkedIn, X Threads…)
Step 2: Build a living idea bank.
You should never open X or LinkedIn and wonder what to post.
Keep a “content bank” with:
Observations from your work
Mistakes you’ve made (and fixed)
Questions people ask you
Notes from books, podcasts, and conversations
Step 3: Set up a repurposing loop.
Don’t reinvent the wheel.
One idea can become
A short tweet
A LinkedIn carousel
A newsletter section
A Substack Note
A CTA to your freebie or paid product
Think: Write once, publish five times.
✅ ACTIONS:
Define your 3-day (or 5-day) content workflow.
Set up your Content Bank with 10 starter ideas.
Repurpose one post into a different format this week.
Add a call to action in at least one post (to grow your list or promote your offer)
Systems aren’t sexy.
But they’re the reason creators stay in the game and start getting paid.
You’ve now built the foundation:
Clarity, consistency, and a system that supports both.
Modern Audience Building with AI
Smart creators aren’t working harder… They’re working differently.
By now, you’ve built clarity.
So here’s your unfair advantage:
AI isn’t just a content tool, it’s a momentum machine.
Most beginners assume AI is only for advanced creators.
But the truth is, it's the fastest way to reduce friction and stay in motion.
Let me break down how I use AI to save time, reduce burnout, and amplify my voice.
1. Ideation: Never start from a blank page.
I use tools like ChatGPT or Claude to:
Generate hooks based on my content pillars.
Reframe a post idea into multiple formats.
Brainstorm 10 angles for your next post or thread.
Once I write the newsletter, I use AI to get at least 6 X thread ideas. They are from different angles, not just newsletter summaries.
For example:
Here is a newsletter (Substack post) I wrote
Here is a thread I wrote from this newsletter.
Here is the LinkedIn post from this newsletter.
2. Drafting: Turn rough thoughts into first drafts.
Have a loose idea or bullet list? Let AI structure it.
Try:
Expanding outlines into threads or LinkedIn posts
Cleaning up your tone without losing your voice
Drafting variations of a post to test different angles
This is how I started writing this newsletter. Just a vivid idea.
Of course, you are reading after a number of iterations and adding my stories, expertise, etc.
3. Repurposing: Multiply your reach without extra work.
A single piece of content can be repurposed into multiple pieces of content and can be published on multiple platforms.
For me, from one newsletter, I create:
At least 10 tweets
2-3 X Threads
2-3 LinkedIn carousel posts
At least 10 Substack notes…etc.
🛠️ Recommended Tools (for Beginners)
ChatGPT + Claude: Fast idea development and rewrites
Notebook LM (by Google): Turns docs, transcripts, and notes into post-ready content
Typefully: For scheduling + refining X content
Notion: To organize and brainstorm inside your workspace
✅ ACTIONS for AI-Powered Growth
Choose one AI tool and learn how to use it for idea expansion.
Use AI to create 3 variations of one post this week.
Repurpose one long-form piece (newsletter, thread) into 3 short posts using AI.
Bonus: Use ChatGPT to audit your top posts and find patterns.
Want to build a content distribution system to capture ideas to create and distribute?
You don’t need to use AI for everything.
You just need to use it where it reduces friction.
In your first 30 days, the goal isn’t to become an expert.
It’s to create momentum…and stay in momentum.
AI is your creative co-pilot.
Use it to go faster, think clearer, and stay consistent without burning out.
Then What Happen?…
I hope now you’ve:
Shifted your mindset
Have an idea how to start
Have an idea what a system looks
Seen how to use AI as leverage…etc
This can be a strong start.
That’s the foundation…
Here’s the big truth:
The next 30 days aren’t about doing more.
They’re about doing what works, again and again… with more clarity, speed, and flow.
If you want help staying in motion…
You don’t have to figure it out alone.
